180,000 part-time soldiers are now on active duty supporting the military action in Iraq. Approximately 3,000 troops from Washington State have just been deployed in the state's largest call up since World War II. Many "weekend warriors" never imagined their service would lead them to a year long assignment in Iraq.

When 180,000 part-time soldiers went to Iraq they left behind their careers. Under the law their jobs are waiting  for them when they return. But the deployment took hundreds of  police officers, firefighters, and other emergency workers off the streets.

On the one year anniversary of the Iraq war there was a heart warming homecoming at Fort Lewis for 70 local soldiers.
